Brook wins to set-up world title shot; Fielding eases past Adamu

Number one welterweight contender Kell Brook made easy work of Mexican Alvaro Robles to score an eighth round stoppage at Liverpool’s Echo Arena and move on to an IBF title shot in the summer.

The 27 year-old, who is mandatory challenger with the International Boxing Federation, warmed up for his career definer by taking every round from Robles to record a dominant win.

Brook did have to ship a few punches in the fight, although the Sheffield fighter knew Robles did not have the power to trouble him and basically teed off on the Mexican title holder until the towel was thrown in heading towards the later rounds.

‘The Special One’ is set to face the winner of a touted clash between world champion Shawn Porter and the charismatic Paulie Malignaggi, with the contest ordered to take place before mid-July by the IBF.

Later on, home fighter Rocky Fielding cruised to victory over veteran Charles Adamu in a snoozefest of a contest. The unbeaten Scouser won every round of a frustrating bout, but had Adamu on the floor in the seventh to further stamp his authority on the Ghanaian.

Adamu must have been generously given a share of one of the rounds on the three judges as they all carded 120-108 to my 120-107 as Fielding improved to 18-0.
