Schaefer to Hearn: Khan v Brook will happen, but we will make the offer!

Hearn stated that he could guarantee Khan a $5 million payday if the former light-welterweight champion agreed to face Brook, something that has caused quite a stir between the two camps on social media.

Khan, 27, was left in the lurch by pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather recently for a proposed pay-per-view clash on May 3, leaving the Briton in search of an alternative opponent for a proposed spring outing.

Schaefer has acknowledged receiving an offer from Hearn for a meeting with Brook, although the CEO was quick to state that it would be Khan’s team controlling the terms once negotiations finally get underway.

“Eventually the Khan vs Brook fight will happen and when it does we will make an offer to Eddie Hearn, not the other way around,” Schaefer stated to World Boxing News.

“The supposed $8 million offer was bullshit, Eddie just confirmed that to me. He has no idea where that came from, but he did tell me that the number would be $5 million (£3m).

“But as I said it is not going to be Eddie making an offer to Amir, it will be Team Khan making an offer to Eddie to provide the services of Kell Brook.”

On Khan’s next move Schaefer then added: “There are a lot of fighters that want to fight Amir and he and his team are currently contemplating the different options. When it is ready we will announce it.”

Brook, also 27, is lined up to fight on March 15 in Liverpool on the back of his impressive win over Vyacheslav Senchenko last October, with Khan so far dismissive of fighting the Sheffield man until he steps up and claims a world title.
