Anthony Crolla cut, John Murray now faces John Simpson on March 1

Crolla will now be replaced by former world lightweight title challenger John Murray on the Ricky Burns v Terence Crawford undercard, which is taking place at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in just over two weeks’ time.

Murray, 29, made his return from two years out of the ring when stopping Michael Escobar in four rounds last November and was pencilled in for an eight-rounder at the Ice Arena in Hull on February 22.

It’s been a slow process for the Manchester fighter coming back from his devastating loss to Brandon Rios at Madison Square Garden in December 2011, but a fight with Simpson could potentially be a route back to top of the domestic scene for Murray.

The lightweight division is currently super-hot in the UK with countless possibilities for future fights with the likes of Crolla, Tommy Coyle, old foe Kevin Mitchell and the rest, with former European champion Murray in the frame to face them all if he can build a winning streak.
