Argentine puncher Marcos Maidana has stated that he has grown tired of Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent poll and even went as far as offering vote nemesis Amir Khan a rematch on May 3.
The 30 year-old, who lost to Khan on points back in 2010, is hoping to land a revenge chance against the Briton on May 3, or at some point in the future, as the two fight it out to become Mayweather’s 46th opponent.
“Forget about the stupid poll and Mayweather,” said Maidana. “Marcos Maidana v Amir Khan is the fight on May 3 or whenever. That is the fight!
“We need to fight for pride and not to determine someone else’s opponent.”
Maidana then cheekily added that Mayweather could face Khan’s old adversary Breidis Prescott on top billing at the MGM Grand, with his return with the Olympic silver medallist sharing the bill.
Whomever comes out on top and gets the nod to face Mayweather in the spring, the unusual way the pound for pound king has asked the public to choose his next foe has already captured the imagination of the fans and had tongues wagging from the off.
Mayweather has clarified that the poll will end on Sunday February 9, but whether social media votes are counting towards the eventual winner has not been announced.
