Mayweather vote update: Maidana lead over Khan cut to 500 votes

‘Money’ announced the poll on mayweatherpromotions.com earlier this week to decide who will be in the opposite corner to him on May 3, although Mayweather has not been clear as to whether the massive outpour from fans on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will count towards his decision.

At the moment, WBA champion Maidana holds a slender advantage (at 8am ET/1pm UK on February 6) by some 500 votes, with Khan coming back from 43 percent to 48 percent of votes since yesterday alone.

There seems to be no time limit set by Mayweather for an official announcement on his spring fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what has been a precedent set by the 36 year-old for choosing who is handed the massive paycheck.

Maidana has been the choice of many since rumours spread late last year that Khan had already agreed a deal with Floyd, but at this stage it could go either way as fans voice their opinion to the world’s best fighter.

Khan has delayed any activity in the ring in anticipation of landing the fight and has taken to his own social media site recently to make his case. Both fighters remain firmly in with a chance of challenging the WBC welterweight title holder though as this latest innovation by Mayweather catches fire.
