Amir Khan overhauls Marcos Maidana in Floyd Mayweather opponent vote

Amir Khan has now overtaken Marcos Maidana in the recently opened Floyd Mayweather vote to decide the pound for pound king’s next opponent for May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

‘Money’ announced the poll currently live on earlier this week to decide who will be in the opposite corner to him for his 46th pro bout, although Mayweather has not been clear as to whether the massive outpour from fans on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will count towards his decision.

WBA champion Maidana took a huge lead early on. but Khan has now edged a slender lead (at 4:36pm ET/9:36pm UK) as the votes head towards 20,000 in total.

There seems to be no time limit set by Mayweather for an official announcement on the winner in what has been a precedent set by the 36 year-old for choosing which contender is handed the massive paycheck.

Maidana has been the choice of many since rumours spread late last year that Khan had already agreed a deal with Floyd, but at this stage it could still go either way as fans voice their opinion to the world’s best fighter.

Khan has delayed any activity in the ring in anticipation of landing the fight as both boxers take to social media to make their case to challenge the WBC welterweight title holder next.
