Demetrius Andrade v Brian Rose: WBO purse bid deadline nears

Phil Jay 13/01/2014

New WBO light-middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade is set learn more of his first defence in the coming days as the World Boxing Organisation’s purse bid deadline for a clash with Brian Rose ends on Thursday.

The 25 year-old American looked impressive when inflicting a first defeat on Vanes Martirosyan in Texas last November to claim the title and now looks to be heading towards a mandatory fight with the Briton.

‘Boo Boo’ has racked up a standout 20-0 with 13 stoppages since turning pro on the back of his successful amateur career, with southpaw being tipped for a long reign as a title holder in some quarters.

Blackpool’s Rose, 28, has certainly had a tougher road to his chance of the world stage and may be forced to travel to the US in order to complete what would be a remarkable victory in the ilk of Matchroom stablemate Darren Barker.

More is to come to light in the days ahead on whether Rose’s promoter Eddie Hearn can secure home advantage for his fighter on the back of his eliminator win over Javier Maciel, with the WBO to make a statement on the fight later this week.
