EXCLUSIVE: Schaefer confirms Maidana vs. Broner II is on cards

Broner, 24, was soundly beaten by Maidana in Texas last December, having been knocked down twice in the fight, and thought that an immediate return might not be on the cards between the two.

“Adrien Broner has exercised his rematch option. I will be working on dates for a rematch with Marcos Maidana, most likely April 19 or April 26 with San Antonio and Los Angeles being options,” Schaefer exclusively told World Boxing News.

‘The Problem’ has now insisted on the activation of the option in the previous contract makes for an interesting return as Broner would seriously have to change his tactics when facing Maidana again.

Fans and media alike were surprised how the fight unfolded, and although some wild antics and turmoil in the build-up certainly wouldn’t have helped Broner, the consensus was that the three-weight world champion moves up in weight too quickly from 135.

Argentinian hardman Maidana would seemingly have no worries about taking the second fight due to the way he dealt with Broner the first time around as a spring blockbuster now looms large for both fighters.

This news also rules Maidana out of a possible fight with Floyd Mayweather on May 3 as Amir Khan edges closer to sealing a dream fight with the top fighter in the world.
