Team Sturm: Felix has various options for first defence

Sturm, 34, claimed a fourth career world title with a second round stoppage win over Britian’s Darren Barker in December and has been enjoyed a well-earned break over the holiday period.

Rumours circulated midweek that Murray was in the frame for a second fight with Sturm following their debated draw in 2011, although Schiffbauer confirmed that the German is still considering his next move and will make his choice known in due course.

“There are various options for Felix Sturm’s first title defense in 2014. At this time, we can’t confirm any opponent but we will announce his first title defense as soon as we know who he will fight,” read Schiffbauer’s statement.

St Helen’s based Murray was due to fight Jarrod Fletcher on February 1 in Monte Carlo, although the 31 year-old pulled out of the fight, which in-turn kickstarted the speculation of a Sturm return.

Germany is the obivous choice for Sturm’s next outing, with a date in April or May the most likely at this point.
