WBN’s seventeen fights of 2013: Did they happen?
WBN’s annual list of seventeen fights compiled in the hope that they come to fruition has produced a slight improvement on 2012 when just two of the list actually made it to the ring.
This year, the group of potential match-ups saw a trio of bouts take place, with the most high-profile of those being September’s 154lb clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul Alvarez.
There is no doubt that the contest was the most anticipated fight of the year and saw Mayweather elevate his standing in the sport even further (if that was possible) by dominating the Mexican superstar over twelve rounds at the MGM Grand.
At super-middleweight, Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler did indeed battle it out for a second time, whilst Nonito Doniare was stunned by Cuban former amateur superstar Guillermo Rigondeaux in the spring.
Some of the fights that sadly didn’t make it where the likes of Sergio Martinez v Gennday Golovkin and a fifth encounter between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Here is last year’s list in full.
