WBN’s seventeen boxing match-ups for 2013: Did they happen?

The World Boxing News annual list of seventeen fights compiled in the hope that they come to fruition has slightly improved from 2012.

Back then, just two of the list made it to the ring. This year, the group of potential match-ups saw a trio of bouts.

The most high-profile was September’s 154lb clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul Alvarez.

There is no doubt that the contest was the most anticipated fight of the year. The clash saw Mayweather elevate his standing in the sport further by dominating the Mexican superstar over twelve rounds at the MGM Grand.

At super-middleweight, Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler did indeed battle it out for a second time.

Meanwhile, Nonito Donaire was stunned by Cuban former amateur superstar Guillermo Rigondeaux in the spring.

Some of the fights sadly didn’t make it.

Sergio Martinez vs Gennady Golovkin and a fifth encounter between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
