Phil Lo Greco offers Adrien Broner welterweight comeback

Lo Greco, 29, lost to current IBF champion Shawn Porter in May and is himself looking to return from what was a first defeat, just as Broner is after ‘The Problem’ surrendered his WBA version to the Argentinian.

‘The Italian Sensation’ watched on in disbelief at the weekend as Broner laboured through the Maidana fight looking out of sorts and hopes to persuade the three-weight world champion to remain in the division – rather than moving back to lightweight.

“Broner proved that he was just a pretender against Maidana,” Lo Greco told World Boxing News.

“He is certainly not Mayweather or his successor as where was his shoulder roll when he ran into trouble? That is Mayweather’s greatest asset when he is being attacked and he showed none of that at all.

“Broner is trying to be Mayweather, but there is only one and he is one of the best, if not the best of all time. If Broner can’t get the rematch with Maidana I would love to fight him!”

Prior to the Porter clash, Lo Greco had racked up 25 straight wins and was on the cusp of a world title fight before the setback. The former WBC fringe title holder now hopes to nail down a big-name opponent after a frustrating few months, before setting his sights on correcting his loss to Porter at some point in the future.

“Next year will be good for me,” said Lo Greco. “The welterweight division is wide open as Porter and Maidana have shown. Porter beat me and then won a world title so I can hold my head up and move forward.

“I took my loss like a man and now I want to jump straight back into the action in 2014 with Broner or the likes of Robert Guerrero, Devon Alexander or Andre Berto.

“Any of the elite fighters are on my list right now and hopefully a win will lead to a world title challenge against Porter so I can avenge my loss.

“I’ll stay off the pasta (laughing), dedicate myself and focus on 147. Since recently going to Vegas and having Miguel Diaz on my side, I feel like I have so much more to give and aim to prove it.”
