The Dennis Hobson promoted world title clash between Briton Stuart Hall and South African Vusi Malinga will see the return of Irishman Paul McCloskey along with a co-feature bout involving the talented Frankie Gavin.
Tickets for Hall v Malinga have been in high demand since the announcement of the clash as the two battle it out on top billing for former champion Jamie McDonnell’s now-vacant IBF bantamweight title on an eye-catching bill.
McCloskey, who famously went six rounds with Amir Khan until being controversially stopped on a cut, makes his return after a frustrating 15 months out of the ring following the collapse of proposed September clash with Chris Van Heerden.
The 34 year-old was on the cusp of agreeing to the IBO title bout in Belfast, until struggles over a TV deal scuppered the clash and McCloskey has since found it difficult to seal a worthy encounter.
‘Dudey’ now returns to the spotlight on a IBF championship undercard where McCloskey faces Sheffield’s John ‘Fireball’ Fewkes as he attempts to build on his previous win over Manuel Perez.
In chief support on the night, British welterweight belt holder Frankie Gavin makes the third defence of his Commonwealth title against Ghanaian champion Joseph Lamptey in what will be his 18th pro outing.
Gavin, 28, is thought to be ready to make the jump to world-class in 2014, with Lamptey inot seen as any threat to the Birmingham fighter’s unbeaten record when the pair meet at the First Direct Arena next week.
The rest of the Leeds bill has a good blend of weight-classes as the likes of Ashley Sexton and China Clarke makes appearances at bantamweight and cruiserweight respectively, whilst Peter McDonagh and Lewis Rees also square-off at welterweight.
