IBF cruiserweight champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez remain so after a punishing victory over Alexander Alekseev at the Stechert Arena in Bamberg, Germany on Saturday night.
Hernandez, 29, dropped the Russian three times during the fight, with the final knockdown the decisive one as the tough Cuban put an end to Alekseev’s challenge in the tenth round.
In chief support, WBO number one contender Denis Boytsov was found wanting at fringe world title level as experienced Aussie Alex Leapai scored a one-sided decision after ten rounds.
Leapai, 34, picked up the WBO Aisa Pacific title in the process and will no doubt be handed a healthy shunt up the rankings as the judges came back with cards of 98-90 and 96-92 twice to seal Boytov’s first defeat.
Also on the card, former European light-heavyweight champion Eduard Gutknecht lost for the third time in his career and second in his last three as Dmitry Sukhotsky halted him at the end of the fourth.
