Former British light-welterweight champion Ashley Theophane is set to fight again on December 6 following his gallant effort in losing a split decision to talented Mexican Pablo Cesar Cano earlier this year.
The 33 year-old jumped several class levels from where he was previously competing domestically to challenge Cano on the Mayweather v Canelo undercard in Las Vegas last September and showed that he certainly belongs at a higher level than his recent fights suggested.
Theophane will now begin his attempts at a winning comeback against an opponent yet to be named on a Mayweather Promotions card that is set to feature hot prospects Badou Jack, Mickey Bey and the returning J’Leon Love.
The event will take place in Washington in the United States, according to Theophane, as the Londoner aims for his first victory since signing his lucrative deal with pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr in the summer.
‘Treasure’ has previously defeated the likes of two-time world title challenger Delvin Rodriguez and ex-WBO champion DeMarcus Corley, whilst going the distance with highly-rated current 140lb title holder Danny Garcia back in 2010. Theophane’s record currently stands at 33-6-1, with ten of those inside schedule.
