Former British heavyweight champion and one-time world title challenger Danny Williams has continued on with his career with yet another loss in a drab ten-round defeat to Oleg Maskaev in Krasnodar, Russia.
In what was an mightily uneventful contest, 44 year-old Maskaev prevailed via a unanimous decision to keep his comeback on track with a third straight win following three years out of the ring.
Williams, 40, dropped a ninth loss in a row once the scorecards were totalled, although the ring announcer failed to relay the final points tallies to the crowd or officials at the end of the fight.
With the win, Maskaev, who made one successful defence of the WBC title in 2006, moves to 39-7 – although looks a long way off from a potential world title fight with his latest performance.
On the other hand, Williams has now lost 19 fights and needs to think long an hard about signing up for his next outing as his last win of any note was over five and a half years ago.
Earlier in the night, unbeaten Fedor ‘Knockout Man’ Papazov failed to live up to his name as the Russian out-pointed Sergio Escobar 99-93, 99-90 (twice) over ten rounds at lightweight.
