Chris John defends WBA belt in Australia on December 6

John, 34, has amassed an impressive 48-0-3 record, along with a prolonged WBA title reign stretching back to 2004 and now fights for the second time in 2013 following his technical draw with Satoshi Hosono in Jakarta last April.

‘The Dragon’ will make his third defence on Australian soil against Vetyeka, who recently defeated John’s fellow countryman Daud Yordan to claim the IBO 126lb title with a twelfth round upset stoppage.

32 year-old Vetyeka has made a successful comeback from a startling decision draw with unheralded compatriot Klass Mboyane in June of last year and was not sees as a threat to Yordan when taking the lesser of the five world title on the same bill as John’s recent stalemate with Hosono.

Both are now paired together at Metro City in Perth by default as John was lining up a huge all-Indonesian rematch with Yordan until Vetyeka put a spanner in the works by dropping and stopping the now lightweight belt holder.
