Former world light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez has announced three fight dates for the next twelve months as the Mexican aims to come back strong following his first career defeat in September.
The 23 year-old was comprehensively out-pointed by pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last month and has now outlined his plans for a big pay-per-view spring return.
“After my meeting with Golden Boy Promotions, these are the dates that I will fight in 2014: March 8, July 26 and November 22,” confirmed the ex-WBC title holder.
“My three dates will be on PPV and the first opponent on March 8 will be announced in the coming weeks.”
‘Canelo’ stopped short of declaring whether he may move up in weight following his humbling 152lb loss to Mayweather, but has been linked to a clash with Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto at some point in 2014 – so may well be content to stay at 154 in the short term.
The 42-1-1 star is certainly focused on continuing his trend of keeping busy year after year and has plenty of time on his side to rebuild and become a driving force in the sport once again.
