Young IBF light-flyweight champion John Riel Casimero made a successful third defence of his belt with an eleventh round stoppage win over Mexican Felipe Salguero in Makati City, Philippines.
The 23 year-old, who was bumped up from interim status in 2012, continued his run of fine form by putting challenger Salguero on the canvas in the eighth and ninth before finishing the job two rounds later with another knockdown.
Casimero didn’t have it all his own way in the contest and was caught on a few occasions by Salguero, but ultimately had the superior shot selection to end the fight late on and move on to his next defence.
The Filipino favourite is now 19-2 with eleven early victories, whilst Salguero has lost five of his 24 fights – having been stopped for the second time in his career.
