Jones Jr: Weidman and Gunn are the only obstacles to Silva clash

The 44 year-old, who has announced his intention to fight Gunn in December, revealed to the awaiting press at the Alvarado v Provodnikov event in Denver, Colorado that he will challenge Silva if both fighter’s come through their upcoming bouts.

Silva, 38, is preparing for a rematch with Chris Weidman after losing his UFC middleweight championship to the 2-1 underdog in the summer, with the pair set to meet again in Las Vegas on December 28.

“A date hasn’t been set but it’s supposed to happen in Philadelphia.” said Jones “If Anderson beats Weidman, that’s the fight we have been trying to make for years.”

The American was strongly linked to a long-awaited meeting with Steve Collins this year as the Irishman launched a comeback bid with a low-key exhibition win, although the one-time light-heavyweight king is now focusing his attention on taking down Silva.

“I know I can win (against Silva), but I need to be at my best to do so,” he added.
