Mayweather: Canelo fought Mosley at 40, everybody I fought was a champion!
The world’s premiere fighter Floyd Mayweather seems unimpressed with some of the wins on upcoming opponent Saul Alvarez’s record, in particular one of the names they share in common, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley.
Both fighters have defeated Mosley and Argentinian Carlos Baldomir at contrasting times in their careers and Mayweather was dismissive of the Mexicans efforts when out-pointing Mosley two years after he did the same.
“It’s so crazy. I didn’t fight him when he was 40,” Mayweather pointed out.
“So what’s so crazy is I didn’t fight Shane Mosley when he was 40; I fought him when he came off one of his biggest victory. People seem to forget that. I never fought nobody for a vacant belt. Everybody I fought, I fought a champion, a guy that was a champion.”
Alvarez, 23, has since defeated Austin Trout, in what most see as his strongest victory to date, although questions still remain as to whether the young fighter can make the leap into Mayweather class from world-class.
At 36, Mayweather’s best years could be behind him and that maybe the only way that ‘Canelo’ can be victorious at the MGM Grand on Saturday night, with most predicting a points victory for the pound for pound king.
