Anthony Ogogo misses out on Mayweather bill due to injury

The 24 year-old from Lowestoft had previously expressed his delight to WBN at being given the opportunity to make an appearance on the Las Vegas bill, but will now be sidelined for the huge MGM Grand event on September 14.

Ogogo has sailed through his first three pro outings since entering the paid ranks in April on the back of a bronze medal at London 2012 and was gearing up for the most high-profile bout of his career next month.

The undercard fight was part of promoters Golden Boy’s plans to adhere Ogogo to the US public as well as keeping him busy on his home soil in the UK, although the Olympian now faces a short wait for another encounter in America.

The unheralded Edgar Perez was comprehensively dispatched via a wide points decision by the talented Ogogo on his last trip Stateside at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City last May, with the middleweight hope certain to be a regular feature on top GBP bills in the future.
