A welterweight tussle between Marcos Maidana and current WBA title holder Adrien Broner could happen this November after the Argentinian secured his link-up with renowned boxing supremo Al Haymon.
According to manager Sebastian Contursi, Maidana, 30, has put the feelers out to Haymon and Golden Boy on a challenge against the outspoken American and has so far had a positive response from all concerned.
“Marcos signing with Al Haymon is a great move for Marcos’ career,” Contursi told World Boxing News.
“I think it moves Marcos a step closer to fighting Broner, but we have to remember that Al has many other great fighters that could eventually face Marcos in the future.
“As of now, no formal negotiations have started for the Broner fight but we had some conversations with Al and Golden Boy Promotions people that lead us to think that the fight in fact could take place on November 9th in Las Vegas.
“All parties are interested in this fight, included Broner, so it could well happen then,”
24 year-old Broner last fought when dethroning compatriot Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclays Center in June and has since been called out by the two-weight world champion for a return later in the year.
That rematch seems unlikely to happen though after a negative response from Broner and Maidana’s standing with the WBA should ensure that a clash with ‘The Problem’ happens before too long.
