Contursi confirms Maidana/Haymon reports

Maidana, 30, has been reportedly in talks with Haymon over a future arrangement with the high-profile boxing figure and Contursi told World Boxing News that they were ‘working in that direction’ when contacted about the situation this weekend.

‘Chino’ is on a three-stoppage streak since losing for the third time in his career against current world champion Devon Alexander and is said to be hopeful of closing a deal to fight current WBA champion Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner later this year.

The two have become vocal with their rivalry since Broner overcame Paulie Malignaggi to successfully move up two weight divisions and having Haymon on board would only help Maidana in his quest to fight the biggest names around at 147.

24 year-old Broner is yet to formally announce whether he will defend his newly-acquired title or return to his roots at lightweight with the WBC, whilst new interim belt holder Keith Thurman is also in the frame should Broner decide to confirm a welterweight stay.

‘One Time’ recently claimed the interim version to Broner’s belt by defeating Diego Chaves.
