WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has claimed the WBN Fighter of the Month prize for June 2013 after his impressive knockout win over three-time world title challenger Matthew Macklin last weekend.
The third round victory has elevated the Kazakhstan fighter to a whole new level, with the 31 year-old now being touted for some mega-fights in the future against the world’s pound for pound best.

Fights against Sergio Martinez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Andre Ward and Carl Froch are all possibilities for Golovkin, who harbours some of the fiercest punching power seen since Mike Tyson sent shockwaves through boxing in the 1980’s

The award now puts Golovkin inline to be considered by the WBN readers for the WBN Fighter of the Year award for the 2013 as all the monthly winners will be put into a vote for the boxing fans to decide.

Last year, the annual accolade was picked up by Britain’s Carl Froch for his crunching stoppage win over previously undefeated Lucian Bute, with the Nottingham fighter beating off the likes of Nonito Donaire and Juan Manuel Marquez in the process.
