Dangerous undefeated Swede Erik Skoglund is the latest fighter to be put forward by the European Boxing Union to fight for their EU light-heavyweight title against former cruiserweight world champion Enzo Maccarinelli.
The original bid, which is set for July 11, was put forward between the Welshman and Dariusz Sek, before the Pole was replaced by Hakim Chioui – with neither fighter wishing to be considered for the contest.
Maccarinelli, 32, is hoping to challenge for the belt on the Nathan Cleverly v Sergey Kovalev bill at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on August 17 and promoter Frank Warren will be hoping that a successful bid will achieve just that.
22 year-old Skoglund has racked up an impressive 17-0 resume’ in just three years, defeating Briton’s Joe Ainscough and Luke Blackledge on the way and most notably veteran Italian Lorenzo Di Giacomo last time out.
With Skoglund an integral part of the Team Sauerland brand, it may be unlikely that Kalle and Nisse allow their young fighter to travel to the UK with his perfect record on the line, which could mean Maccarinelli faces a different foe altogether next month.
