Eddie Hearn has confirmed to WBN that ‘Saint’ George Groves will fight an eight-rounder on the undercard of this weekend’s WBO super-middleweight title rematch between Arthur Abraham and Robert Stieglitz in Germany.
The former British and Commonwealth title-holder, who has been linked to fights against both headliners, will tune-up for his appearance on the undercard to the huge Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler return on May 25 in London.
“”I’m thankful for Sauerland to have George have this run out on Saturday,” Hearn told World Boxing News.
“Groves is number one challenger to Abraham so will get to see him first hand. He hasn’t had anywhere enough activity over the past few years so with his Matchroom debut this month, Saturday, May 25 and his September headline show, I’m glad to deliver him 4 fights in 6 months.”
Groves, 24, is ranked highly by the WBO and could be in line to face the winner of the Sauerland-promoted GETEC Arena main event at some point in the near future. His opponent for the weekend’s contest will be announced shortly.
