Broner lines ‘em up: Pacquiao, Marquez, Gamboa and Rios
WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner is on the verge of securing a WBA welterweight title shot against current belt holder Paul Malignaggi, after which the pound for pound star is eyeing up some more mouth-watering match-ups.
The 23 year-old stated openly: “I’ll fight all those mother f***ers” when naming current 140lb stars Brandon Rios and Juan Manuel Marquez as possible suitors, along with Yuriorkis Gamboa and the formerly invincible Manny Pacquiao.
It now looks increasingly likely that Broner will leave the 135lb division for good, putting an end to a possible fight with Ricky Burns for the time being as ‘The Problem’ eyes bigger fish heading towards the end of 2013.
The Malignaggi bout is reportedly in final negotiations for what is considered to be a catchweight contest between the two at around 143 or 144 pounds, and is slated to take place on June 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Golden Boy could announce the fight officially next week if there are no bumps in the road as far as the negotiations go. Mandatory WBA challenger Diego Chaves would also have to agree to step aside until later in the year – with purse bids due today.
