Mendez dethrones IBF champ Salgado in four rounds, avenges loss

Dominican Argenis Mendez is the new IBF super-featherweight champion after scoring a devastating fourth round knockout win over Juan Carlos Salgado in Costa Mesa, California.

The 26 year-old, who is now based in the US, gained revenge for his 2011 loss to the Mexican after the two fought a hard twelve rounds with Salgado gaining a debatable unanimous decision on that occasion.

This time around there was no repeat though as Mendez dropped Salgado in the first and fourth rounds, with the champion out for the count after the latter knockdown – handing the challenger the title.
