All change at 135 as Burns is set for Matchroom and Broner heads to 147

WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns is about to inflict another massive blow on former promoter Frank Warren and sign up with Sky favourite Eddie Hearn at Matchroom Sports. An announcement is set to take place in London tomorrow as the 29 year-old Scot attempts to end months of uncertainty surrounding his career and get a possible unification at 135lbs back on track.

That double title bout will not involve WBC belt holder Adrien Broner though as ‘The Problem’ is intent on skipping light-welterweight to challenge 147lb champion Paul Malignaggi on June 22 in New York.

Touted opponent and IBF champion Miguel Vazquez, who was originally scheduled to face Burns in March before the fight was pushed back tio April, is also awaiting developments – although it is not yet known if new promoter Hearn will resurrect the fight.

More will unfold tomorrow at the London press conference as Burns, one of just three UK world champions, heads to the Sky Sports televised stable and a possible slot on the Froch v Kessler II card in May.
