George Groves scores debut stoppage win under Matchroom

Top super-middleweight contender George Groves halted Dario Balmaceda in a straightforward victory to improve his record to 17-0 with a thirteenth career stoppage at Wembley Arena.

The Londoner make light work of the mediocre Argentinian, putting him on the seat of his pants twice, before Balmaceda took the full count to hand Groves a third round knockout win.

The triumph was the 24 year-old’s first since leaving Frank Warren Promotions for Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable and Groves now heads into a big fight on the undercard of Froch v Kessler in the capital on May 25.

Talk of a possible world title fight against the winner of Arthur Abraham v Robert Stieglitz has been sounded out, although with the two having their rematch on March 23, the dates may just be too close to make it happen.
