Burns, 29, announced his decision this week to leave current promoter Frank Warren through his manager Alex Morrison, and some reports in Scotland pitted GBP with a sudden swoop for the Coatbridge fighter.
Schaefer has denied any intention for contact with Burns though and also stated that contractual issues surrounding the Briton would mean no approach would be forthcoming in the near future.
“We haven’t made any effort to talk to Ricky Burns,” Schaefer told World Boxing News.
“He is still under contract to Frank Warren and a fighter cannot simply declare that they are free and then the next day sign with another promoter.
“Also, I am not in the business of stealing other promoters fighters,” he added.
