Tony Bellew open to Juergen Braehmer clash

Bellew, 30, faces South African Chilemba on March 30 at the Echo Arena in the first defence of his green belt, but would have no qualms in sharing a ring with the German, who has also been linked to a clash with old rival Nathan Cleverly.

“One fight at a time, although I would definitely like to face Braehmer though,” Bellew told World Boxing News.

“Braehmer a name and a test. I would love to become European champion, but am so close to fighting the best 175lb fighter on the planet in Chad Dawson.

“I beat Chilemba and I’m there, but I’d be happy to face Braehmer after Chilemba though.”

The Merseysider is highly-ranked with the WBC following his wide points victory over Roberto Bolonti last November and could conceivably face Dawson in the summer if he can negotiate Chilemba.

An impressive win for Bellew over the former world champion at 168lbs would move ‘Bomber’ that much closer to a high-profile clash with ‘Bad Chad’ in the United States and closer to fulfilling his world title ambitions.
