George Groves set for Matchroom switch, debut touted for March 9
Former British super-middleweight champion George Groves is on the verge of signing for Matchroom Boxing and will therefore negate on a European title shot on March 16 at Wembley Arena.
The 24 year-old, who signed for Frank Warren Promotions on the back of his biggest career victory over James DeGale in May 2011, was due to fight Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye later this month, but now seems set to debut for Eddie Hearn’s stable a week earlier.
Groves was a headliner on the upcoming ‘Rule Britannia’ promotion alongside Ricky Burns and Nathan Cleverly, although that fight is now scrapped as the ‘Saint’ heads across to Frank Warren’s main rivals.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday to officially announce the move.
