‘Canelo’ pulls from Mayweather card, gets April date with Trout
Saul Alvarez has requested that he be removed from his chief support slot on May’s Floyd Mayweather v Robert Guerrero Las Vegas bill and Golden Boy have been swift to grant his wish, according to Richard Schaefer.
The WBC light-middleweight champion, who fought on Mayweather’s undercard in 2012 in the hope of enticing the pound for pound king to fight him, is now set to appear on a new date of April 20 in Texas.
Schaefer confirmed the news to WBN tonight, with WBA title holder Austin Trout set for a unification clash at the Alamodome in San Antonio with the Mexican superstar after a long drawn-out round of talks.
‘Canelo’ may now have given up hope of a future 154lb clash with Mayweather, although the full story on why the 22 year-old has decided on the switch is yet to emerge.
