Hearn: May 18 a ‘strong favourite’ for Alexander v Brook clash
World Boxing News has learned that the postponed IBF welterweight title bout between champion Devon Alexander and mandatory challenger Kell Brook is initially targeted for rescheduling on May 18.
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn told WBN that the date is a ‘strong favourite’ for the contest to take place and is now awaiting confirmation from Alexander’s handlers at Golden Boy Promotions.
Alexander, 26, injured his bicep in training, pushing back the contest for the second time as it was due to take place last week in Detroit and Washington has now emerged as a leading candidate to stage Brook’s first world title tilt.
The 26 year-old from Sheffield has been left frustrated by the delays hampering the fight, but may now be able to focus once again on his step up to championship level against the dangerous American in late spring.
