World Boxing News have been informed that the much-talked about fight between former world champions Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute will take place at some point in 2013.
A representative of Bute’s promoters InterBox, told WBN that rumours the one-time IBF belt holder at 168lbs was ready to step in and fight Pascal were premature, although there is a slight chance the fight could happen in May – but more likely towards the end of the year.
Pascal, 30, is due to challenge WBC 175lb title holder Chad Dawson on May 25 in Quebec, Canada in a rematch, although reports have suggested that the fight is in jeopardy and could be scrapped.
That led to further speculation that 32 year-old Bute would step in possibly take on Pascal in an all-Canadian battle at the Bell Centre on the same date, which would be a dream fight for the country if it came off.
It all now rests on champion Dawson’s next move as to whether the Pascal fight will go ahead as planned this spring, with Bute waiting in the wings to pick up the pieces if the worst happens.
