South African two-weight IBO champion Hekkie Budler make a successful second defence of his minimumweight belt on home soil as he out-pointed Renan Trongco at Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng.

“The Hexecutioner’ began the bout somewhat slowly in the first couple of rounds by his standards, but soon got into a rhythm and controlled the majority of what was an entertaining contest.

Trongco, 24, gave a decent account of himself in what was his first full world title shot, but ultimately succumbed to Budler’s superior speed and skills to drop a fourth loss from sixteen bouts.

Budler, also 24, was handed a comprehensive 118-110, 117-111 (twice) victory on the three ringside judges’ scorecards to move his record to 22-1 and line up a potential unification in the summer.
