EU heavyweight champion Richard Towers has seemingly confirmed Tyson Fury’s earlier tweets that he was offered the chance to face David Price at the Echo Arena next week.
Fury stated on his own account that the Price’s upcoming bout against Tony Thompson was called off and that Towers, 33, was given the opportunity to step in a late notice for the clash.
Event organisers Frank Maloney Promotions have now squashed rumours that the fight is off, although Towers has now come out and said that Fury’s statement on his part was true.
Towers, tweeting on his account, alleges that the purse offered for the fight was too small for him to take the fight, although this was not mentioned by Maloney when condemning the original tweets.
Price v Thompson is now set to go ahead as planned on Saturday week as the Liverpudlian attempts to continue his surge towards a possible world championship fight.
