Last night at the Hilton Garden Inn, amateur standout Shakor Jackson made his professional debut as he took on Cornelius Whitlock of Hanover, Maryland in a bout scheduled for four rounds.
In a shock turn-up, a dramatic ending was provided by Whitlock, who tarnished the pro debut of the touted Jackson of Newark.
Jackson, whose highly successful amateur career included a New Jersey Golden Gloves title, appeared to win the first two rounds of the four-round contest.
Midway through the third, however, Whitlock landed clean on Jackson in the middle of the ring. Jackson staggered around for the next 30 seconds before Whitlock put him away with a thunderous overhand right to the head.
Jackson fell like a chopped tree and struggled to get up as the referee called a halt to the fight at 2:22 of the third, as Whitlock improved to 1-0-1.
