Rios v Alvarado II set for the Mandalay Bay on March 30
Former world lightweight champion Brandon Rios will battle Mike Alvarado for a second time on March 30 after the two participated in a barnstorming seven-rounder last October at 140lbs.
Rios, 26, kept his unbeaten run of 32 bouts intact in the process of ending Alvarado’s 33-0 run and both will now step back between the ropes for what is a highly anticipated spring rematch.
‘Bam Bam’ had been linked to some stellar opposition against the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez and Yuriorkis Gamboa, although fan power ultimately won the day for promoter Bob Arum, who insisted the fighters should meet again.
32 year-old Alvarado was on the verge of a shot at a world title when pitted against Rios in a WBO light-welterweight title eliminator last year and there would be a good case for this return to be for dormant full title currently in the possesion of Pacquiao-conqueror Marquez.
