Austin Trout to Golden Boy on Canelo: Have faith in your boy!

On the back of stating to World Boxing News that a potential unification with Saul Alvarez hangs on a decision by Golden Boy this weekend, WBA light-middleweight champion Austin Trout has called for the promotional outfit to make sure the unification fight can go ahead.

The 27 year-old, who stunned Miguel Cotto in December to retain his title, is intent on securing the May 4 clash with ‘Canelo’ on the forthcoming ‘Cinco de Mayweather’ card and has urged CEO Richard Schaefer to accept the fight by stating: “I personally don’t believe that Canelo is ducking me, but I do believe that Schaefer and Golden Boy is though! Have faith in your boy Golden Boy!

Trout’s words are a strong statement from a fighter in form and would add a weighty contest to what will be the biggest night in the boxing calender so far this year.

Target Alvarez, 22, had hoped to tackle Floyd Mayweather himself on the Las Vegas card, but may have to be content with a chief support slot and hope that a victory over his next opponent, potentially Trout, will lead to a clash of his own with the ‘Money’ man.
