Boxing mourns as life support for Camacho Sr. is withdrawn

Former world champion fighter Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho has died after life support that was keeping the brain dead Puerto Rican legend alive was removed by his family.

The 50 year-old was shot in the face in a case of mistaken identity earlier in the week and the initial diagnosis was that Camacho was in a critical but stable condition in hospital and would pull through.

Camacho quickly deteriorated after suffering a cardiac arrest and was pronounced ‘clinically dead’ on Thursday night after doctors stated that there was nothing more that could be done for the stricken boxer.

‘Macho’ was shot in the jaw in a car as a fellow passenger was also murdered and will be fondly remembered by all that enjoyed watching him fight, and what a ‘fighter’ he was until the very end. Our thoughts go out to all who knew him at this sad time.
