Maurico Herrerea hopeful of rescheduling Brandon Rios bout
Mauricio Herrera has spoken to WBN in the wake of the collapse of his light-welterweight bout with Brandon Rios after the former WBA lightweight champion suffered tendonitis in his elbow in the run up to their bout.
The 32 year-old, who fought a ten-round war with Mike Alvarado in a ‘Fight of the Year’ contender in April, was lined-up for a high profile fight on the Donaire v Mathebula undercard on July 7th, until Rios pulled out with the injury and Herrera hopes to rearrange the contest soon.
“Well as you can imagine, I am really disappointed and the pull-out has gotten me down a little” Herrera told World Boxing News.
“I really hope we get to reschedule the fight. I have not heard anything yet, but I am hoping we can still make the fight for a later date.
“I really wanted to fight Brandon as it would have been a good fight for the boxing fans and I am not that well known to the people. I hope they make a big deal out of this so we can meet soon as the fans have missed out on a great battle.”
