Ortiz, 25, held the WBC 147lb title following his victory over Berto last April, before losing the belt following a hands-down knockout defeat to Mayweather. The California-based fighter has a solution to his former opponents argument over the purse split for his proposed super-fight with Manny Pacquiao and sees a straight-forward way to come to an amicable agreement.
“This is what I think is a fair split. It should be easily answered by some simple mathematics,” Ortiz explained to World Boxing News.
“Look at the last five fights for the two fighters and do a comparative analysis of the TV sales, venue sales, sponsorship deals and then determine the percentage based on their ability to sell.
“So if they have similar number, then give the 50 /50. But if one has greater numbers than the other, then you have to do a proper apportionment to the fighter who makes the bigger money.”
The ‘Vicious’ one is still not 100% clear on whether Andre Berto will be ready for his given date in the summer following a bicep injury in January and recently told WBN that he will fight on that date with or without his rival.
New welterweight contender Devon Alexander has already thrown his hat in to the ring to maybe face the winner of the second fight between the two former champions, although Ortiz is not sure whether the former 140lb title holder has earned his shot at what he calls the ‘elite fighters’ of the division.
“Devon Alexander is a good fighter and has now moved himself into the elite division so he is entitled to dream about taking on all the elite fighters.
“Whether that happens is another thing entirely,” he added.
