Ricky Hatton to retire today at 12pm
One of the most exciting British fighters in recent years will officially announce his retirement today, over two years after his last fight. Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton, who held world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, will step away from the combat side of the sport and permanently into his role as a promoter at 12pm today.
The likeable Mancunian amassed an army of loyal fans in his twelve-year boxing career, becoming one of few Brits to have his name emblazoned on the Las Vegas strip on more than one occasion. The 32 year-old took on the best fighters on the planet with no fear and in the end, came up short with his dignity in tact.
The boxer/promoter is finally ready to drop the boxer part of his title and concentrate fully on his new venture Hatton Promotions, which is steadily growing into one of the best promotional stables in the country. Hatton had threatened a comeback since devastating losses to Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2007 and 2009, but in the end, decided he’s had enough.
