Frankie Leal tragically dies following KO defeat to Raul Hirales

Super-bantamweight contender Francisco 'Frankie' Leal has passed away as doctors failed to revive the Mexican fighter after he fell into a coma on the back of his stoppage loss to compatriot Raul Hirales on Saturday night.

The 26 year-old, who had lost eight from 31 pro contests, was taken ill following his eighth round knockout at the Auditorio Municipal in Mexico and never regained consciousness, according to saddening reports.

It's was the second time the southpaw was stretchered out of a battle as Evgeny Gradovich put him in the hospital in 2012, although Leal was cleared to fight again and subsequently scored technical knockouts in his next two bouts.

This latest defeat proved to be the talented boxer's final contest though and becomes yet another indication of the dangers these professionals put themselves in. The sport of boxnig has now lost another young warrior in the worst circumstances possible just days from his 27th birthday.

WBN would like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Leal at this very sobering time.
