David Price plans to celebrate the big three zero with a sledgehammer KO.

The British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion meets Tony Thompson in a rematch at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Saturday July 6 – coinciding with his 30th birthday.

Price hopes it will be many happy returns when he bids to avenge his shock two round defeat he suffered against the American southpaw back in February.

It was one of the biggest boxing shocks anywhere in the world so far this year and redemption will make it a birthday to remember for the 6ft 8in scouse powerhouse.

Victory also puts the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion back on the path to world title glory and kick start the mother of all birthday bashes.

Promoter Frank Maloney said: "David won't be thinking of any birthday party, but if he wins I'll buy him the biggest birthday cake in Liverpool."

The classy Leeds boxer faces British light-welterweight champion Darren Hamilton, who will be making his second defence of the title he took from Ashley Theophane 12 months ago.
