Deontay Wilder confirms Jason Gavern clash for August 16

In a fight that manager and coach Jay Deas told WBN will be 'the most important of his career,' hard-hitting heavyweight Deontay Wilder will fight Jason Gavern in a ten-round contest on August 16.

With a world title chance just around the corner, Wilder, 28, has chosen to enter the ring at the StubHub Center in a warm-up as his stipulated clash with WBC champion Bermane Stiverne is delayed.

An injury to Stiverne means the WBC clash cannot take place until at least November and Wilder has now confirmed that Gavern has signed up for the fight on the Shawn Porter v Kell Brook undercard next week.

Wilder is hoping to add yet another knockout to his standout record, having put together the most frightening C.V in the top division consisting of 31 stoppages, all of which have come within four rounds.

Opponent Gavern has lost 16 times in his career and been halted seven times, meaning the 37 year-old goes into the encounter a heavy favourite to become knockout number 32 for the formidable American.

'The Sensation' did enjoy a run to the final of a recent Prizefighter UK tournament eventually losing to Michael Sprott, but should be no match for 'The Bronze Bomber' when the pair collide in Carson.
