Brandon Cook has confirmed to World Boxing News that talks are underway for a rescheduled fight between himself and Sam Eggington later this year.

Due to a fight this Saturday on Matchroom’s O2 show this weekend, Cook was left disappointed and out of pocket after first opponent Kell Brook and stand-in opponent Eggington both withdrew through injury.

But after speaking with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, the Canadian fighter is confident he will be coming back to the UK very soon.

“Hearn did say he’ll get me on a card, hopefully in September, but he didn’t say what one,” Cook exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Eggington is my type of fight. I’d rather fight taller guys, but now I know I’m hopefully going to fight him in September. I’ll line up the guys I need for sparring.

“Obviously, I would love to fight on Saturday, I was ready to go, I’ve been training all summer, it didn’t matter who was in the ring, I was going there to win.

“But, style-wise, this will give me more time to adjust to how he’s going to be.”

Cook arrived in London earlier this week and spoke of his long-term goal of fighting for a world title and his willingness to step in the ring with anyone as long it was a step in the right direction.

“I figure we just wait until September, and I hope Sam’s good to go. If not, I don’t care who it is. I want anybody with a big name, anyone who has one of the big titles.

“I’m ranked by the WBA and the IBF, and I’m ranked number four by the WBO. I’d fight the champ, Mungai, I don’t care as long they give me an offer, I’m ready to go.

“I’d like to one day fight for a world title. That was my goal after winning the Canadian title.

“I didn’t think I’d even do that and then boom, I did that and now I’m close, I’ve just got to keep working and beat whoever’s put in front of me.”

After all the setbacks leading up to now, it seems as though Cook’s profile I starting to rise and he is eager to show UK fight fans what he can do.

It’s an opportunity Cook now surely deserves.
